South Padre to Punta Cana and Beyond: Travel Cleanses, Heals, and Rejuvenates

international self care day

Today, July 24, is International Self-Care Day. And this author felt inspired to make a case for why Travel has probably been the antidote to mental stress and fatigue before ‘bucket lists’ became a thing. And before the concept of mental health became etched in the societal conscience as it is now (about time, I would say).

Not a Cure, But Definitely a Cleanse

Now, just to be clear – Travel isn’t a cure for serious mental health conditions that someone or their loved ones might be dealing with. There’s real support out there that can make a genuine difference – if and when one chooses to seek it.

Where Travel makes a difference is that it acts as a potent cleanser of the everyday crud that forms around one’s spirit thanks to the daily grind. Routine is important – even necessary. But as the adage goes, ‘too much of anything is too bad’ and it calls for that routine to be broken a couple of times a year, minimum, or if you’re of the ‘Traveler Ilk’ – as many times as you can manage.

Does Travel Help Physically, Too? Absolutely.

To those who are frequent travelers, a question might arise as to why I have not mentioned the physical benefits of Travel. Is Travel only supposed to make you sore (from fatigue) or sick (thanks to acclimatization to a new place)? Absolutely not. Depending on your journey and destination, there are tangible physical benefits to Travel, for sure.

Let’s say you’re in an urban area, especially one that is very smoggy or wet or dull. Your eyes see grey more than green. You want to breathe in fresh air, but that can only happen within the confines of your air-conditioned room.
And then you go online and search, for say, something along the lines of ‘hotel rooms in South Padre Island’ or maybe something even more exotic like ‘Punta Cana hotels all inclusive’. Lo and behold, a site like say, zeebusiness.com (Hey, we’ve got to plug it in, right? Hehe.) will pop up and give you a smorgasbord of amazing options. Pick any of the options, set foot on those glorious beaches – and can you honestly tell me that won’t do your body a world of good? Trust me, it will.

Nature at Her Therapeutic Best

Now, let’s go back to that glorious beach vacation we were talking about, shall we?
The sand between your toes massaging the bottoms of your feet, the bright sun hitting your face, the ocean or the sea inviting you for a gentle swim, this is Mother Nature at her therapeutic best. It almost makes the daily grind worth it.

Your Next Escape: Where & Why

Fun facts: South Padre Island hotel rooms often sit right by the beach, making them perfect for morning mindfulness walks or sunset meditation.

All-inclusive vacation Punta Cana sounds like a dream, especially when you want to indulge in some quality self-care because a lot of hotels at Punta Cana offer yoga classes, massages, and wellness menus that help you truly reset, mind and body.

The Deeper Layer: Travel & Relationships

So, Travel is a self-care trifecta. It heals or at the very least rejuvenates body, mind, and spirit. And we’re only covering the benefits it has for an individual.

Travel also has tremendous positive benefits for your relationships with your loved ones. Be it friends or family, Travel is an opportunity for one to sit still and soak in the personalities, quirks, and mannerisms of those who are near and dear to us. It brings us closer, or if not, at least makes us reflect on things that are keeping us apart. And if one’s version of self-care also includes maintaining some healthy bonds with other humans, Travel helps there as well.

Final Boarding Call: Why Travel Wins

All in all, Travel – according to yours truly – is and has always been a net positive. From just a change of scenery to maybe a proper life changer, the journeys that take you away from home are always worth taking.

Travel is a basic human instinct. You don’t need to convince someone on the idea of Travel – just need to convince them to prioritize it over the regular schedule.
And in the realm of self-care, there are few things that are as accessible from both an ideology and execution points of view as Travel is.

Even individuals most closed off to the idea of self-care would probably still be open to a break or vacation. They might call self-care – a fad or hokum but tell them, “Come on, man, let’s get some cheap hotels in Las Vegas and unwind for a weekend… without breaking the bank,” and their ears might just perk up.
What’s more, quite a few cheap hotels in Las Vegas come with spa packages or pool access that make your weekend feel luxurious.

So, yeah, yours truly here has absolutely no doubts that Travel is vital and, if it were up to me, mandatory for the human condition. It heals, rejuvenates, teaches, surprises, and evolves one as a person. And it is getting nothing but a big Vote Up from me.
